Care & Support

Care that fits the person, not the routine

Personal, unhurried care from a team who get to know each resident as an individual.

  • 24/7 care team on site

  • 3 home-cooked meals a day

  • Any time visiting, no need to book

  • Since 1921 sight loss expertise

Our care

  • Personal care Help with washing, bathing, dressing and grooming, given with dignity and at times that suit you. Your care plan is shaped with you and your family and reviewed regularly.

  • Health and medication We work closely with High Glades Medical Centre, whose team visits the home regularly, and with district nurses and specialist services. Medication is given by trained staff, and residents who wish to manage their own can do so where it is safe. We also have a dedicated emergency line for urgent medical support.

  • Sight loss support Backed by HRVAB’s expertise, we pay close attention to lighting, contrast and signage around the home. Our team is trained in sighted guiding and communication, and care plans reflect how sight loss affects daily life. We also support residents with hearing loss.

  • Meals Three freshly prepared meals a day, cooked on site, with a choice of menu. Our cook will chat with you about your likes and dislikes, and special, cultural and modified-texture diets are catered for. Drinks and snacks are available at any time.

  • Daily activities Something to enjoy every day, planned around residents’ own interests and preferences, both in the home and at the Taplin Centre, HRVAB’s day club next door. See what we have been up to on our Facebook page.

  • Meditation and wellbeing Regular guided meditation sessions with a volunteer meditation teacher help residents relax, breathe and feel calm. We offer the same sessions to our team, because a calm, well-supported team gives the best care.

  • End-of-life care We work with palliative care and hospice teams so that residents can, where it is their wish and it is safe to do so, remain in the place they call home.

It starts with an assessment

Every admission is based on an assessment. Before anyone moves in, we meet them, and their family where they wish, to understand their needs and preferences and to make sure Healey House is the right place for them.
